A couple of months ago MTV announced that the drunken fights and hook-up sessions that is The Jersey Shore will return to TV this summer. I have nothing against the show. I find it hilarious and titillating.
I also disagree with most critiques. The cast doesn’t purport to be representative of Italian-American culture (three of the members aren’t even Italian), though the strategically placed green, white and red flags around the beach house would make one assume they were. Then again, I’m not Italian, and I’ve never been to nor do I have any attachment to the real Jersey Shore. If the camera crew journeyed to L.I. and perpetuated the stereotypes of we Long Islanders, however, I might take offense. Aqua Net, french-tipped nails and bubble gum is totally not what we’re about.
All of that aside, my favorite “character” is Snooki. She’s adorable and lovable, like a Cabbage Patch doll. And according to a FOX News interview with J-Woww, Snooki is at least part-Chilean.
I might be crazy, but…Snooki might have a bit of Lil’ Kim in her too.
